Where the rates come from
ImportChecker uses official and reference sources where available, then shows the source behind each estimate.
Source links help you check the rate before you rely on an estimate. They are especially useful when the goods may qualify for an exemption, trade agreement rate, or extra duty.
Types of source used
- Customs tariff schedules
- Used to find the duty rate for a product in the importing country.
- VAT and GST sources
- Used to estimate the broad import tax rate where one is available.
- Trade agreement and extra-duty sources
- Shown when origin, product code or route may change the result.
- Fallback reference data
- Used as a practical estimate where a national product row is not available.
Why sources matter
The same product can be treated differently depending on its detailed description, origin and paperwork. If an estimate looks important to a buying decision, open the listed source and check the product row before placing the order.
